Captain Andrew Beaudoin operates Battle Fish Charters with a guide certification as captain and operator of airboat and passenger vessel, issued in August 2019. The certification number is 103237. Andrew's background extends beyond this credential: he is a retired U.S. Army paratrooper and combat veteran with a B.S. in fish and wildlife management, bringing both discipline and ecological knowledge to every trip on the water.
His approach to guiding reflects this depth of experience. Andrew teaches fishing techniques including jigging, ice fishing, spinning, and light tackle work. He works with all skill levels, from young children as young as 4 to seasoned anglers, and takes care to improve each person's angling skills before the trip ends. He also makes space for the moment itself, taking pictures of catches to preserve memories for families and friends.
Battle Fish Charters operates from the Saranac Lake region in the Adirondacks, exploring Lake Flower, Oseetah Lake, Upper and Lower Saranac Lake, Kiwassa Lake, and the Saranac River. Trips use 14-foot Jackson Kayaks that are pedal and paddle powered, equipped with GPS and a fishfinder to locate productive water. The boats are stable enough to stand and fish from, and an ice box is available on board for storing the day's catch or keeping food and drinks cool.
Andrew welcomes up to 12 guests on a single trip, so families and groups can fish together without splitting up. The kayak-based approach keeps movement quiet and brings anglers closer to the water than many other platforms, which can mean more strikes and better sight of the fish. A typical half-day trip runs 4 hours, while full-day expeditions take 8 hours, giving you time to explore multiple sections of water and adjust tactics based on what the fish are doing.
The Adirondack lakes and rivers hold several of the region's toughest mountain fish. Northern Pike, Trout (including Brook and Brown), Salmon, Bass (both Largemouth and Smallmouth), Walleye, and Panfish are all available depending on the season and location. Andrew targets the species that are active and responsive during your trip, working different depths and presentations as the day unfolds.
Battle Fish Charters also offers fly fishing experiences where you can build your own fly rod before heading out to target Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, and Smallmouth Bass. There are also paddling trips available for anyone looking to explore the calm waters and scenic Adirondack landscape at a slower pace without a fishing focus.
All rods, reels, tackle, lures, and live bait are provided on your trip, so you don't need to own or bring fishing gear. What you do need is a valid New York fishing license, which you must purchase before the trip. New York State requires all anglers, regardless of age or experience, to hold a license while fishing in the state's lakes, rivers, and streams.
Beyond the license, pack sunscreen, snacks, and drinks to stay comfortable during the hours on the water. The kayaks are stable and safe, but dressing for the weather and the season is a smart precaution. Andrew will provide guidance on what to wear when you book, and he is always ready to answer questions about what to expect from the water and the fish on any given day.
Andrew's commitment to making trips memorable goes beyond technique and fish catching. He knows the Saranac waters intimately, understands the habitat and behavior of the species in them, and has the experience to adapt when conditions shift. Whether you're a child learning to cast for the first time, a family looking for a day together, or an experienced angler chasing a trophy Pike, Andrew brings professionalism and patience to every outing.
Contact Battle Fish Charters to book your next Saranac Lake fishing adventure. Half-day and full-day trips are available, with flexible options for fly fishing, kayak fishing, or paddling-only outings depending on your interests and goals.
